Bit of a tidy!

Managed to get into the shed for a couple of hours today. My son William is now nearly 12 weeks old and is much happier for longer so we get bigger gaps before we have to do things.

The plan today was to have a tidy. This is a recurring theme with me!
My time is SO precious now that I need to be able to just go in the garage and do something, rather than go in, move things around, look for the tool I need then get fed up.

I am saving up for some racking. This will give me 4 shelves, 8 feet high, 4 feet deep and 8 feet wide.
All the frames and bodywork and engine casings (things which take up a lot of space) will go on the racking. This will pretty much empty out the shed, which will become the place where my workbench and tools will be. It will be nice and cosy.
Then the garage will just contain the racking, the lambro and the bikelift (and any scooters).

The trouble with doing a move like this is that you are limited for space – it’s like those puzzles I remember as a child – 15 tiles in a 4 by 4 grid and you have to move the tiles around to make the picture. With the garage it is pretty much like that now.
The plan is to clear the bike lift, put loads of stuff on that in boxes. I can then clear the space for the racking and put it in. Things will get easier then as so much stuff can go on the racking.
I am going to paint the floor while I am at it. It will make the whole place easier to keep clean and makes it easier to find any parts that get dropped.

I had been saving up icecream boxes for the last few months. This enabled to let me sort out all my gearboxes. I did’t realise I had so many, quite impressed. None for sale though!

Also had a play with an engine stand I got this week. Picked it up for £15, had to collect it from Pontefract which involves a 5 minute diversion off my route to work. It is one that bolts onto where the spare wheel jack stand goes and then uses the engine mounts at the other end.
It was a good bargain, very pleased. It is one that lets you work on the engine in the position it would be in the scooter and also on its side with the clutch facing up. My only critiscism is that it doesn’t let you stand the engine up to do the timing easily but for £15 I can’t moan.
